Krya · local AI for Windows 10 and 11
Talk to the duck
For people who would rather run AI on their own computer than pay a cloud for it.
Krya is a small tray app for every program. It fixes text typed in the wrong layout, translates, reads English aloud, checks your English and types what you say. When you want to practise, it talks with you in English. One app instead of a layout switcher, a translator tab and a grammar checker.
- Gemma 4, Whisper and Parakeet on your graphics card or processor
- No subscription, no pay per word, no account
- No cloud: your texts, voice and talks stay on your computer
- Open source, MIT
- Pause Fix the layoutghbdsn cdsn → привіт світ
- e.g.Shift×2 Translateпривіт світ → hello world
- CtrlC×2 Listenhello world, read aloud

This page carries translations of the duck story only. Krya translates any text, on your computer.
Talk to the duck. It talks back.
Press your Talk key and say a line in English; press it again to send. The duck answers aloud, like a friend with time to chat. Your mistakes are marked under your own lines, with a short note in your language. The duck never corrects you: it answers what you meant.
- Your level. A2, B1 or B2. The duck keeps to it: about 7, 8.5 or 15 words a sentence, measured.
- Topics with a plan. Free talk, your day, a trip, a café, a job interview, your work. The interviewer asks one question at a time, then tells you how it went.
- On your graphics card. The model Accurate uses (Gemma 4 E4B, 5.2 GB) answers in about a second on an RTX 2080 SUPER. It needs a card with 4 GB of its own memory. Speaking needs Krya's speech engine; typing works without it.
- Your talks stay here. Kept on this computer for 30 days. Go on with one, or delete it.
Every action has a key.
Each one works in every program. A key can be a combination, a modifier tapped twice, Pause, or a mouse side button. You change any of them on the action's page.

Typed in the wrong layout? Keep typing.
Krya fixes a word typed in the wrong layout as soon as you finish it, and switches the layout for the next one. It reads the keys of the word you are typing, never the text around it.
- fixedghbdsn → привітEN → UK
- fixedзгдд → pullUK → EN
- Pause right after a fix takes it back and keeps the word as typed.
- Pause retypes the last words, or the selected text, in the layout that reads best. Again for the next one.
- Learns as you go. A word you fix by hand twice is fixed always; a word of yours typed three times becomes yours.
- Stays out of the way in password fields and full-screen games. NB and other abbreviations are left alone.
Translate like DeepL. Paste it back.
Select a text in any program and press your key. The text and its translation open together; edit the text and it is translated again. Enter pastes the translation over your selection, and your clipboard stays as it was.
- The direction is a rule. Your language goes into English, any other language into yours. 32 languages.
- Three levels. Fast is Firefox's offline translator. Accurate and Most accurate run a Gemma 4 model on your own graphics card or processor.
- Text on the screen. Ctrl+Alt+T, draw a box over a picture, a video or a game, and its text opens ready to translate.
Write in English. The duck checks it.
Select what you wrote and press your Check key. Wrong words are struck out in red, the fix is in green, and one short note in your language explains the main mistake. A right text says so and stays as it is.
- Real mistakes only. No rephrasing; code and names are left alone.
- Measured on 44 texts, it caught 31 of 32 mistakes and changed none of the 11 right ones.
- Your mistakes, kept. Library › Mistakes shows the ones you repeat first.
have sent → sent: зі словом yesterday потрібен Past Simple, а не Present Perfect.
Say it, and it's typed.
Press a key and speak. Krya types the phrase where the cursor is, in the language you spoke or straight in English. It recognizes while you talk, so the text is there a moment after the key.
Let's move the release to Friday and keep the old installer for now.

Can everyone see the new tray menu?
- 00:17Olena
Yes. The rows feel calmer now.
- 00:24Speaker 3
Then let's ship it on Friday.
- Quick on an ordinary processor. 22 seconds of speech were typed 0.2 s after the key (Parakeet, on an Intel i9).
- Transcripts of files, the microphone and Google Meet calls. Telling an hour's speakers apart takes about 2 minutes on an RTX card.
- Words to spell. Names and terms come out written your way, in dictation and in transcripts.
Nothing you read leaves your computer.
Krya has no account, no cloud and no telemetry. The models download once and then work offline.
